The Winter Teachings Have Begun

We would like to share with you some Dharma news of the Great Winter Teachings that we are holding here at Jangchubling Monastery, Dehradun, India.

WT11_02His Eminence Garchen Rinpoche arrived at Jangchuling Monastery on November 9. Many Rinpoches, monks, nuns and lay people received him and the reception was made according to tradition. The reception program continued in the temple of Jangchubling Monastery and we offered tea and sweet rice to Garchen Rinpoche and all the participants. Afterwards the winter teaching committee members and H.E. Tritsab Rinpoche made an offering Mandala and all the Sangha members offered Khataks to Garchen Rinpoche and each of them received a blessing from him.

WT11_03On November 11, 2011, which was a very special day, Garchen Rinpoche, led the world peace prayers all day and he also gave a speech regarding the importance of the aspiration prayers. The prayers that were mainly chanted were the prayers of Samantabhadra, Nama Sangiti, and long life prayers for all the Holinesses including His Holiness the 14th Dalia Lama and both Drikung Kyabgon Holinesses, sun and moon.

The event area filled with many followers and decorations of different colors and shapes of light offerings around the monastery. In the evening Garchen Rinpoche was so kind to lead the candle light offering and Tritsab Rinpoche, Trichen Rinpoche, Nubpa Rinpoche, many others Tulkus, Khenpos, Drupons, Lopons, hundreds of monks, nuns and lay practitioners took part in it. WT11_05They circumambulated the monastery, carrying candles and chanting the prayers for increasing of Bodhicitta. The prayers ended with the aspiration prayers of Buddha Amitabha and other dedications.

On the morning of November 12, lots of monks and nuns performed various prayers until lunch time. After lunch Garchen Rinpoche conferred the Hevajra preparatory empowerment.

WT11_04On November 13, Garchen Rinpoche conferred the actual Hevajra empowerment. There were large numbers of monks, nuns and lay practitioners, who came from various parts of the country and from abroad. More than one hundred devotees came from overseas and more than two hundred disciples of Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche from Taiwan attended the program.

These winter teachings are very special because of the blessings and aspirations of His Holiness the Drikung Kaybgon Chetsang.

From November 15 to 19 around fifty monks will perform the Hevajra practice with a sand mandala according to the new Sadhana that His Holiness recently edited. Tritsab Rinpoche was so kind to accept the invitation to lead the practice of Hevajra.

Garchen Rinpoche will lead the White Tara Drubchen with ten senior monks and around twenty five monks will perform Achi prayers in the Achi temple. The rest of the monks and nuns will perform various Pujas, including the long life prayers for His Holiness.

Garchen Rinpoche very kindly accepted the invitation to give teachings every day from the November 15 to the 19 from 8:30am to 10am. In the afternoon the overseas devotees will have discussion and practice on calm abiding with Khenpo Tamphel at the Songtsen Library.
